MAY Moodboard - Hues of Greens

There is a version of May that moves too fast to catch. The first green shoots arrive, and before you've had a chance to sit with them, summer is in full swing.  I don’t have school age children yet, but I think when I do, May is going to feel even more like a rushing through the end month.  The window between winter's last exhale and the full explosion of the season is narrow, and I think most of us blow past it without meaning to.

This moodboard is my attempt to slow that down visually. It's built around a tension I keep returning to this month: the pull between being outside and being settled at home, and the question of how to bring the same quality of attention to both. A tent in the woods and a writing desk in a quiet room are asking the same thing of you. They're both containers for a certain kind of presence that is harder to find than it should be.

The objects here are chosen with that in mind. The analog watch isn't about style, it's about making a decision with your wrist before you reach for your phone.  It caught my eye this month as I was feeling more of a pull towards analog.  I’ve worked feverishly to launch my Postcard Club this month, so I think deep down I’m craving simplicity and that feeling of pausing before the explosion of what is next.  May feels fitting for this.

The farm basket, the enamel tumbler, the camp stove setup, these are things that slow a task down just enough that the task becomes worth doing.  I love objects that have weight to them (often that is a marker of quality).  The heaviness makes me notice them and take me out of the autopilot of my routine.  The desk and the chair are for the version of home life that deserves the same intentionality as a weekend at the lake.

Life isn't lived through the things we own, but I think the right ones have a way of quietly insisting that you pay attention. Below is what I've been drawn to for the month. Some of it I own, some of it I'm working toward, all of it is in service of the same idea.

May Field Notes

The May Field Notes is where this month started for me, a scene from the kind of day I'm building toward. If you haven't read it, start there.
